STUDENT LIFE

Athletics

The athletic experience is integral to a Franstech education. Through interscholastic and intramural competition, lifetime sports and activities, and a comprehensive fitness program, the school seeks to build character, to instill team values, and to advocate a life-long commitment to positive physical and emotional habits. On the playing field, as in the classroom, Franstech promotes citizenship and leadership, teaches sportsmanship and fair play, and aims to inspire a passionate pursuit of excellence.

Music
Franstech School Music Department offers individual instruction on a variety of instruments. Private music lessons are offered as an extracurricular activity. No fees are billed by the Comptroller’s Office.
Instruction
We have instructors for the following instruments: piano, organ, harp, violin, viola, cello, double bass, bass guitar, guitar, flute, clarinet, oboe, bassoon, trumpet, horn, trombone, tuba, saxophone, percussion, voice, composition (by selection), and conducting (by interview and audition).
Visual Arts
Through rotating exhibitions and the care and safe display of the collection, we hope to integrate art into the lives of people, inspiring individual reflection and community dialogue. We believe in the power of art to stimulate creative thinking, aesthetic appreciation and openness to new ideas. The galleries aim to be a resource for teaching in all disciplines.

Performing Arts
Once you complete our “Foundations of Theatre” class, you will possess the skills to act a leading role in a play or to direct one for our Annual Theatre Festival. We offer advanced, advanced training on theatre art. You may even find yourself directing a full-length, faculty-supported play of your choice someday, if you put in the time and effort. We empower our students to do their own work, you can imagine. We know no better way to learn.
We are flexible too. If you play a varsity sport, for example, you could engage us in that trimester by joining our popular Impulse Comedy Troupe, or, you could request to play a smaller role in any of our other offerings. And not to worry, we always provide a “varsity level” arts experience in every single trimester so you won’t miss out.
I imagine you already know about our Parents' Weekend Musical in October, a must-see highlight of our theatre program. We, all of us (some 60 strong, including six faculty), come back for a three-day “preseason” prior to the School’s official opening to rehearse and tech all day long. It may be exhausting, but no one has more fun than we do! For singers, we also provide easy opportunity for lessons and a great choral program in the Music Department plus a re-opening fest favorite, the Broadway Cabaret.
